The British School Yangon (BSY) is an international school which is based on the British Curriculum provided to both expats and locals in the city of Yangon, Myanmar. It currently provides schooling to students aged 3-16 and will be accepting its first Sixth Form cohort in August 2020.[1]

BSY is part of Nord Anglia Education (NAE), a large global organisation of 66 schools in 29 countries.[2][3]

History[edit]

The British School Yangon was founded in 2011 by the British Schools Foundation (BSF) in demand for the growing expatriate population. It was officially opened by British Ambassador Andrew Patrick in August 2014 and in 2018 the school relocated to a larger site. The British School Yangon falls under the British Schools Foundation, a UK registered non-profit organization that promotes quality British-style education worldwide.[4][5]

BSY joined the Nord Anglia Education family of schools in December 2017, along with 6 other BSF schools.

Location[edit]

The school is located at Taw Win Street, Mayangone, Yangon, close to Inya Lake and opposite Victoria Hospital. Early Years, Primary and Secondary students are all on the same site.

Curriculum[edit]

In addition to the British national curriculum, the school will also provide additional learning opportunities for pupils, such as through sports, music, drama and educational trips.[4]

Global initiatives[edit]

BSY partners global organisations[6] including The Juilliard School, MIT and UNICEF. Through these partnerships, students at BSY have access to international events and activities.

BSY also has connections with King's College London to offer an Executive Masters in Education for their teachers.[7]
