The Cliffs Golf Resort

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Cliffs Golf Resort is a proposed development for an 18 hole par 72 Links-style golf course at Pennington Bay on the south-east coast of Kangaroo Island, South Australia. The developer Kangaroo Island Golf Links also intends to build a luxury clubhouse lodge, a 180-bed hotel and potentially restaurants, conference facilities, a luxury day spa and a health club.[1][2] Environmental group Kangaroo Island Eco Action is concerned that the development will adversely impact habitat for threatened and protected species, including the White-bellied sea eagle.[3]

The sale of waterfront Crown land for the amended proposal has become an issue for the 2018 State government election. Nick Xenophon has expressed support for environmental impact studies to be conducted, as recommended by residents and scientists.[4]

Development[edit]

A golf course was first proposed at the location by Programmed Turnpoint in 2014 and received planning approval in 2016.[5] After acquiring the project, Kangaroo Island Links Pty Ltd redesigned the course and received further development approval from South Australia's Minister for Planning, John Rau in June 2017.[6][7][8] The land was originally acquired by Andrew Purchase and the course was co-designed by Darius Oliver,[9] who previously designed a coastal golf course at Cape Wickham, Tasmania which opened in 2015.[10] Oliver is the author of a series of several books on golf, including Australia's Finest Golf Courses and the Planet Golf series.[11]
