The Country Day School Costa Rica (CDS) is a college-preparatory international private school located in San Rafael de Alajuela, Costa Rica.

History[edit]

The school was founded in 1963 by Omaha, Nebraska native Marian Baker in order to provide an American college preparatory education in Costa Rica. What started as a large house in Sabanilla with only 18 total students quickly turned into a popular school for American expatriates. In 1973, Baker sold the school to new owners who moved it to a new location in Escazu, where it would remain for 43 years. In 2016, the school moved to a newly built, LEED-certified campus located in Hacienda Espinal, San Rafael de Alajuela. CDS now enrolls over 750 students along with over 200 faculty and staff.

In 2018, CDS was acquired by international school provider Nord Anglia, joining a list of over 70 private day and boarding schools spanning over 30 countries.

Accreditation[edit]
