The Country Girl (Arabic: بنت البلد, transliterated Bint al-balad) is an Egyptian film released in 1954.[1]
Synopsis[edit]
Abdel-Rahim Kabir al-Rahimiya Qibli (Mohamed Al-Tabii) sends his son Abdel-Maboud (Ismail Yassine) to study in Paris, after the former hears of his rival Hafiz Bey has done the same. Abdel-Maboud leaves behind his fiancée and cousin Badria (Nagat El-Sageerah), who is fluent in French.
In Paris, Abdel-Maboud meets a con man (Stephan Rosti) and convinces him to marry the dancer Katy (Katy) for a dowry of 5,000 Egyptian pounds. She is in on the fraud.
Abdel-Maboud asks his family to fund the ludicrous sum and is denied by his parents. In fact Abdel-Rahim travels to Paris with Badria and two of his other sons, Abdel-Mawgoud (El Sayed Bedeir and Abdel-Maqsoud (Abdel Ghani Nagdi), in order to dissuade Abdel-Maboud.
The con man and Katy whisk Abdel-Maboud away from his family upon the family’s arrival, and Katy even tries to lure Abdel-Rahim and his sons to marry her. However, Abdel-Rahim refuses to do anything before meeting Abdel-Maboud. Badria gets to Abdel-Maboud first, however, and the two try to untangle the family patriarch and his two sons from the deception.
