The Curious AI Company develops advanced AI technology (Artificial Intelligence). Its main focus is research in semi-supervised and unsupervised machine learning. The company was founded in 2015 and is headquartered in Helsinki, Finland.[1]
History[edit]
The Curious AI Company was founded in 2015 by a team including Harri Valpola, long-time AI researcher and student of Finnish artificial neural networks academic Teuvo Kohonen.
Harri Valpola cites the motivation to start a new company was the sense of letdown he felt after trying to apply existing AI theories in practice at ZenRobotics, a AI-powered waste sorting robotics startup he co-founded in 2007.[1] According to Valpola, the key problem was “dirty data” and the difficulties the messiness of real-world applications generated for machine learning techniques.[1]
Operations[edit]
Initially, The Curious AI Company looked to apply their research to autonomous cars[2] but dropped it after seeing no business case there.[3] Currently, the company is developing machine learning based solutions to automate knowledge work and process manufacturing.[3]
