The company focuses on placing so-called ''Forward Deployed Engineers'' (FDEs) directly with customers to identify use cases, build AI-powered solutions, and integrate them with existing enterprise systems and workflows.
At launch, OpenAI announced that the company would acquire the consulting and engineering firm Tomoro[1][3], adding approximately 150 specialists in AI implementation and operations.
OpenAI Deployment Company was initially backed by more than US$4 billion from a consortium of investors and advisory firms, including TPG, Bain Capital, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs, Bain & Company, McKinsey & Company, and Capgemini. OpenAI retained majority ownership and operational control of the venture. (openai.com)
The initiative was described as a strategic effort to accelerate enterprise AI adoption and compete with other AI companies targeting the corporate market, including Anthropic. (Reuters)
