The European Conservative
The European Conservative is a quarterly magazine with conservative orientation with contributions on philosophy, politics, culture and the arts. According to their mission statement, they publish "articles, essays, interviews, and reviews that illuminate the different varieties of conservative, traditionalist, reactionary, and right-wing thought from across Europe and around the world".[1]
The review was founded in 2008 as a bi-annual newsletters by members of the Center for European Renewal (CER), a conservative think tank based in Amsterdam. Their thoughts are influenced by the teachings of the late British political philosopher Roger Scruton among others. One of the key figures of the CER is University of Leiden political philosopher Andreas Kinneging. 'The European Conservative' published contributions by Anthony Daniels (Theodore Dalrymple), Ryszard Legutko and Todd Huizinga, among many others [2].
Since 2019, the review is independent and is published by European Conservative Nonprofit Ltd. in Budapest, in collaboration with the CEDI/EDIC think tank in Vienna and Nazione Futura in Rome. Its Editor-in-Chief is Alvino-Mario Fantini. He has previously written for 'The American Spectator', 'Crisis', 'The New Criterion', 'Far Eastern Economic Review', 'Catholic World Report', 'The American Conservative', and 'The Wall Street Journal' and spoked to the annual National Conservatism Conference in Rome 2020.[3]
Reception[edit]
The magazine and CER have been critically noted as a "space of transnational circulation of conservative ideas" which also played an important role for connecting Western European right-wing intellectuals with East Europeans, especially Polish anti-communists who turned anti-liberal.[4] [5]
