The Schools
The Falcons group of schools is a group of three schools that are located in South-West London and owned by the Alpha Plus Group.
- The Falcons School for Girls[1][2] is located in Putney. The school educates boys and girls from 3 – 8 in its dedicated Peregrines Pre-Preparatory building. Girls remain at Falcons School for Girls until 11, preparing for the London day schools’ 11+ Examinations and 11+ Common Entrance for country boarding schools. The current Headmistress is Mrs. Sara Williams-Ryan.
- The Falcons Preparatory School for Boys[3][4] is located in Richmond and educates boys aged 7 – 13. The current Headmistress is Olivia Buchanan.
- The Falcons Pre-Preparatory School for Boys[5][6], previously known as Falkner House Boys, was founded in 1956. It is a Pre-Prep school for 3 – 7 year old boys in Chiswick. The current Headmistress is Liz McLaughlin.
In 2019, the schools withdrew from the Teachers Pension Scheme leading to a labour dispute between the owner, the Alpha Plus Group, and the trade unions.[1]
The 2019 Impairments
The owner of the schools, Alpha Plus Group, had to impair[7] the value of the schools by £2.15m in 2019 due to the declining pupil numbers that led to a 12.5% fee reduction. The owner explained this on page 40 of the accounts:
- Falcons School for Boys Pre-Prep – the Group announced a 12% average reduction in the school fees for the 2019-20 academic year which has reduced the previously assessed value in use. A £1.6m impairment provision has been recognised accordingly.
- Pupil numbers have not grown as previously projected at Falcons School for Girls and, consequently a £0.55m impairment provision has been recognised.
