The Financial Brand is an American digital publication focused on marketing and strategy issues affecting retail banks and credit unions.[1]. The publication — while most of the staff works remotely — is headquartered in 5425 64th Ave NW, Gig Harbor, Washington. It has a worldwide readership as the website ranks 60,837 across the globe and 35,421 in the United States[2], as of September 15, 2021.
Founded in 2007[3] by CEO and President Jeffry Pilcher[4], the publication is utilized as a resource for C-level banking executives looking for the latest ideas, insights and information about how financial institutions build their brands. The Financial Brand was first captured on the Wayback Machine[3] on September 5, 2008.
Until 2014, when Co-Publisher Jim Marous[5] joined the online publication, Pilcher wrote nearly all the publication's articles. However, the Financial Brand's staff has since grown to more than 10 people with three primary writers — Editor-in-Chief Bill Streeter[6], Executive Editor Steve Cocheo[7] and Editorial Associate Garret Reich [8](9), in addition to a stack of freelance writers.
The Financial Brand Forum[edit]
Since 2014, The Financial Brand has held The Financial Brand Forum, which claims to be the "largest event for marketing professionals in banking"[9]. After running annually for six years, its 2020 forum was postponed because of Covid-19 restrictions[9]. Its 2022 forum, slated to take place from November 14 to 16, will take place in Las Vegas at the Aria Hotel Resort[10].
The Neobank Tracker[edit]
On April 28, 2021, The Financial Brand launched its "Neobank Tracker," which CEO Jeffry Pilcher writes in its launch is "the first public database of neobanks, challenger banks, digital-only banks, direct banks, and fintechs offering direct-to-market solutions"[11]
The publication designed the tracker for experts in the financial industry to better sort through "the rapidly evolving thicket of neobanks and fintech players,"[12] wrote Tom Groenfeldt for Forbes.
The Neobank Tracker's database has directory listings for over 300 neobanks[13], including (but not limited to) Chime, Paypal and Venmo.
