The ninth and final season of the American superhero television series The Flash, which is based on the DC Comics character Barry Allen / Flash, was announced on March 22, 2022. It is set in the Arrowverse, sharing continuity with the other television series of the universe, and is a spin-off of Arrow. The season is produced by Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and DC Entertainment, with Eric Wallace serving as showrunner. Grant Gustin stars as Barry Allen.
Episodes[edit]
Season nine will consist of 13 episodes.[1] They will be broken into at least two "Graphic Novel" storyline arcs, known as the eighth and ninth graphic novels respectively; this numbering continues from the first seven "Graphic Novels" established in the previous three seasons.[2] Kayla Compton will direct an episode of the season.[3]

Production[edit]
Development[edit]
In April 2020, series star Grant Gustin said there had been discussions about renewing the series through a ninth season, but those were stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4] In January 2022, when the eighth season was in its midseason hiatus, Gustin signed a 1 year deal for 15 episodes for a ninth season with a raise with him being paid $200,000 an episode for his salary.[5] On March 22, 2022, The CW renewed the series for a ninth season.[6] On August 1, it was announced that it would be the final season of the series, with an abbreviated 13-episode order.[1]
Casting[edit]
Main cast members Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Nicolet and Brandon McKnight return as Barry Allen / The Flash,[5] Iris West-Allen,[7] Cecile Horton[8] and Chester P. Runk.[9] Danielle Panabaker, who portrayed Caitlin Snow and Frost in previous seasons, also returns as a regular, though her character was not disclosed.[10] Jesse L. Martin, who portrayed Joe West throughout the series, left the series as a regular, though he is expected to recur in the season.[11]
Filming[edit]
Filming is scheduled to begin on September 14, 2022, and conclude on March 6, 2023.[12]
Release[edit]
The season is expected to air in early 2023.[13]
