The Flayed
The Flayed is the fifth episode of season three. Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper read a file from Larry Kline’s file collection and find out that the Russians live in Hess Farm, so they decide to travel there. They find a moose head and make the horns block the moose’s ears and then turn up the oven’s heat. They tick the clock, and they turn a golden bear. They realize they unlocked a secret room. They enter the room and find four different bears on some pedestals. They beat up some Russians, and they find some dead scientists with notes inside of their pockets. They read the notes and realize they are riddles. They manage to solve them and twist the bears in a way that unlocks the door. They enter the room and find a long hallway, and when they enter, they notice a man named Alexei in the room. They tell Alexei to come with them. After walking through hallways, they reach a section with a bunch of levers. Alexei tells them that this section is as easy as 2 1 3. Hopper figures this out and pulls the first lever twice, the second lever once, and the third lever three times. This allows them to get a clear run to the elevator due to a shortcut, allowing them to escape from Hess Farm. Dustin Henderson checks in with Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley at Starcourt Mall, who reveal that the final sentence that they translated is “if you tread lightly.” Dustin leaves to try finding anything about this hint. He finds a fitness store and goes onto a treadmill and sets the speed to very slow and starts treading lightly. This triggers a Russian message to play, which Dustin is confused at. He realizes this code is probably signaling that Starcourt Mall was probably run by Russians. He tries to leave but the fitness store owner is suspicious of Dustin and uses a revolver to blast the brains out of Dustin. Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers decide that the only reason that Hawkins is so depressed recently must be because someone is hurting their feelings, so they decide to ask Doris Driscoll at Hawkins Hospital. They ask the receptionist at the Hospital if they can visit Mrs. Driscoll, but the receptionist says that they must tell her Mrs. Driscoll’s name and her address, Nancy and Jonathan don’t know either of these pieces of information, so they look around to try and find her birth certificate and her ID. They kill the doctors using their trinkets, and find her information. They go back to the receptionist and tell her that Mrs. Driscoll’s real name was New Delhi, and her address was 6”11”. The receptionist steals their information since they don’t use NordVPN, and then let them into the hospital’s sixth floor, where Mrs. Drscoll is located. They find Lee H. Oswald on the sixth floor, who tells them that Doris was in the locked metal room. They see that the Mind Flayer had hurt the hospital's feelings, and they unlock Driscoll’s room, but find out that she isn’t there, when they follow the blood that she left, they find Tom Holloway and Bruce Lowe, who want to hurt their feelings. They rip off Tom’s skin, but find out that they heal when next to each other, so they lure them away from each other and finish them off, they see the Mind Flayer chasing them, so Nancy orders Jonathan to stay and she runs away, she sees Jonathan get eaten before she is able to escape, but is glad to be free. She sees a car with John K. headed towards the hospital and thinks of Jonathan, wondering when he was gonna come.
