The Floor is a fintech innovation hub, founded in June 2016 in Israel that received primary seed funding from Chinese venture capital firm Pando Group.[1] The Floor is located on the third floor of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.[2] The Floor functions as an innovation center for six international financial institutions.[3] The Floor provides solutions for problems faced by major banks through in-house R&D and existing fintech startups. [4]
Reverse Innovation Approach
The Floor is a customer-oriented platform that focuses on its partners rather than acting as a co-working space for fintech startups.[5] Internal documents state "We are believers of finding solutions to existing problems as opposed to finding problems to existing solutions" which is referred to by employees as the "reverse innovation approach".[6][7]
This approach involves seeking out solutions to banks’ issues through two methods.[8] The first is by locating and dealing with existing startups that are currently working to solve this issue. The second is through in-house research and development from intel’s engineers. [9]
Partners
The Floor is partnered with a few of the largest financial institutions in the world including HSBC, Intesa Sanpaolo, RBS, Santander, CTBC Holding and Deutsche Bank.[10] [11]
The Floor is also partnered with other companies such as intel, accenture and KPMG that work together on other initiatives that benefit both parties such as intel’s innovation lab that is located within The Floor's offices in the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.[12][13] [14]
Location
Whilst The Floor's first office is located in Israel within the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, however there are currently plans for the company to expand into Asia.[15][16][17]
