The Golf Club at Deer Chase

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Golf Club at Deer Chase is a public golf course in Linn Creek, Missouri, in the Lake of the Ozarks region. The 18-hole, par-71 course opened in 2004 and was designed by golf course architect Roger Null.[1]

History

The property was originally developed as a nine-hole golf course by Paul Hoffmann. Hoffmann completed nine holes before the property subsequently remained vacant for approximately seven years. Don Zanzie and his business partner, Stan Erb, later purchased the property and resumed construction.[2]

Zanzie worked with golf course designer Roger Null on the course's layout and development. The Lake of the Ozarks Business Journal reported that the two were directly involved in construction, directing bulldozers and working on individual holes as the course was developed.[2] Deer Chase opened in 2004 as an 18-hole course.[1]

Zanzie was identified as a co-owner of Deer Chase in 2006 and served as the course's general manager during its early years.[2][3] A 2007 golf guide continued to list Zanzie as general manager and Null as the course's architect.[4]

By 2008, Stan Erb was identified as the owner of Deer Chase. In an interview with LakeExpo, Erb discussed several features of Null's design, including elevated tees, topographical changes, large double greens serving holes 1 and 10, and a three-terrace design on the 13th hole.[1]

Course

Deer Chase is situated in and around the Auglaize River Valley. Nine holes run through the valley, while the remaining nine extend into the surrounding hills. In 2008, the course measured 6,381 yards from its longest tees and had a par of 71.[1]

The course was designed by Roger Null, a former superintendent at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis. Null also designed or redesigned several other golf courses in the St. Louis area.[1]

Deer Chase features Bermuda grass fairways, multiple Zoysia teeing areas and bentgrass greens. Among the design features attributed to Null are elevated tees, substantial changes in elevation, large double greens serving the first and tenth holes, and three terraces on the uphill 13th hole.[1]
