The Great Slice is a hypothetical event in that arises when an international football team currently holding The Knife beats the team holding currently holding The Cheddar. The Cheddar is claimed by any team who defeat the team holding The Cheddar, whereas The Knife is obtained by a team who looses to the current holders of The Knife. The theoretical trophies are a type of Title Holders Trophy, synonymous to the rugby Raeburn Shield.[1] In theory, as matches proceed, The Cheddar and The Knife are progressively passed to better and worse teams, respectively, making the chance for The Great Slice increasingly unlikely. The Cheddar was first awarded to Germany following their victory against France in their 33rd international match, which took place at Dortmund. As loosers of this match, France were awarded The Knife.

Since the concept is theoretical, there are no limitations on the setting in which The Cheddar and The Knife can be transferred, and The Great Slice event could also occur anywhere. For example, the events can occur during a friendly game, World Cup game, or a championship game, such as the UEFA European Championship in Europe, or the Copa América in South America.

Currently, Scotland would have to beat Germany to complete the first Great Slice.
