History
The Great Potato War, also known as The Potato War, was a competition between the Minecraft players Technoblade and Im a squid kid, taking place on the minecraft Server Hypixel. This competition was first made public via a Video[1] uploaded to Technoblades Youtube channel called "Skyblock: the great potato War" on the 13th of November 2019. In this video he stated, that he was currently holding the number one spot in the "potatoes farmed" category in the gamemode of Skyblock, after overtaking the previous number one spot holder I am a squidkid. Two days after the initial video was uploaded to Technoblades channel, Im a squidkid responded with his own video, stating that Technoblade may have won the battle, but that he had not won the war. In the following days both of the players had built up a team of other users, who were willing to donate important resources to their operations. The next upload from Technoblade followed on the 7th of march 2020, in which he stated, that squidkid[2] was catching up. In the same Video he talked about upgrading his farm to further increase his potato yield. The following four months both of them were beginning the construction of a larger, manual farm. Before the construction of the manual farms, both of them were using minions[3]. On the 13th of july 2020 the last part of the series [4] was uploaded to Technoblades channel, in which he revealed many of his tactics, including faking the data of potato yield by 10.9 %. The war officially ended on the same day the final video was released on Technoblades channel.
Aftermath
multiple days after the official ending of the war, a temporary NPC was added to the Hypixel Skyblock Lobby, called the "Potato King", when interacted with, one could claim multiple rewards. In total the war lasted a total of 9 months.
