"The Greatest" is a song written and performed by British musician James Blunt. Blunt, Nathaniel Cyphert and Steve Robson wrote the song, which is the final track on Blunt's sixth studio album Once Upon a Mind.

Background[edit]

Blunt originally wrote the song as a message of hope for his children.[1] However, after the COVID-19 pandemic began less than six months after the release of the album, Blunt reframed the song as an expression of gratitude towards first responders and healthcare workers globally. UK profits from the sale of the single were donated to the National Health Service.

Music video[edit]

The accompanying music video was released on April 17, 2020. The video features Blunt singing interspersed with footage of healthcare workers during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.[2]
