The Hello Kitty Movie is a 2028 upcoming live-action animated fantasy film directed by Leo Matsuda and Jennifer Coyle, written by Dana Fox and Lindsey Anderson Beer, and produced by Beau Flynn.[1][2][3]
Release
According to Warner Bros. Pictures, the film is set to be released on July 21, 2028.[1] It was previously set to be released for a theatrical feature initially in 2019.[4]
Production
Development
In early July 2015, the announcement of a full-length animated was made by Sanrio. In early 2019, it was announced that New Line Cinema would collaborate with Sanrio and Flynn Picture Company to produce an English-language movie inspired by the well-known children's brand.[5] In 2021, it was reported that Jennifer Coyle and Leo Matsuda had been hired to direct the film with Lindsey Beer set to pen the script.[6][7]
Announcement
After years of planning and development, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and New Line Cinema are finally moving forward with the production of a “Hello Kitty” feature film, scheduled for release on July 21, 2028. An announcement shared on Instagram and TikTok from the studio on Wednesday read, “Hello Hollywood 🎀🌴🎬 #HelloKittyMovie is hitting theaters on July 21, 2028!”[8][9] The studio also stated that this film will mark Hello Kitty’s first appearance in a Hollywood theatrical release, as she and her friends set out on an exciting cinematic journey that is sure to entertain fans of all ages.[10][1]
