The Henley Distillery is an independent English spirits producer based in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. It was founded by master distiller Jacob Wilson in 2021 and operates from a converted 18th-century threshing barn. The distillery produces a range of gins and rums, and offers guided tours and hands-on distilling experiences to visitors.[1][2]
History
The distillery was established by Jacob Wilson, a former head distiller at the Henley Gin Company, together with his father Alan Wilson.[3] Wilson founded the business with the aim of producing small-batch, handcrafted spirits using traditional methods. The facility houses three 300-litre alembic copper stills which are heated by open flame, and all bottling and labelling are completed by hand.[4]
Production and products
The Henley Distillery's production focuses on premium small-batch spirits that are non-chill filtered and distilled with botanicals sourced from the UK and abroad. Its core range includes:
- Henley Gin – a dry gin with citrus and floral notes
- Classic Dry and Orchard Edition gins
- Temple Island Rum – a spiced and coffee rum made from molasses[5][6]
The distillery also produces bespoke spirits for private clients and hospitality venues.[7]
Visitor experiences
The distillery offers tours and tasting sessions, as well as a "Signature Gin Experience" in which visitors can create their own personalised bottle of gin.[1] It has been featured by regional tourism bodies including Visit Reading and Experience Oxfordshire.[8]
Awards and recognition
The Henley Distillery was named New Distillery of the Year 2022 by Experience Oxfordshire.[1] Its products have been listed by the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) and the Gin Guide, and have been certified vegan friendly by Barnivore.[9][10]
Community involvement
In 2024 the distillery partnered with the charity Action for M.E. to raise awareness and funds for people affected by myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME).[11]
