The High Sun[edit]
The High Sun is one of Wang Shaofei's most expensive ink paintings. It uniquely blends Western painting techniques with a distinct style, marking it as one of the works that elevates Chinese painting and ink art to the latest peak of development in the global modern abstract art scene. The painting uses sharp contrasts of black and white ink to depict the vigorous growth of plants reaching towards the sun.

The High Sun once became the most expensive artwork in the history of Chinese art exhibitions. In the spring of 2017, at the special exhibition celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Port of Kobe, The High Sun, owned by a collector, was appraised by international experts at 8.5 billion yen (approximately 74 million USD or 560 million RMB) and was subsequently sold after the exhibition. This sale set a new world record for the valuation and sale price of ink paintings, making it the most expensive artwork in Chinese history at the time. It remains the most expensive ink painting ever sold as a single piece.
