The Internet and You is a 2016 surreal comedy film directed by Scott Wozniak starring Will Kanwischer. The film is a parody of 1990s educational videos in which the characters Net-Meister 4089 and Abraham Ethernet explore the internet.

The film was initialy intended to be a 10 mnute educational short for AP Literature, however the work eventually became a standalone comedy film.

Although initially unknown, due to the popularity of Wozniak's Scott The Woz series, the film became a cult classic.

Plot[edit]

Abraham Ethernet is playing the Nintendo 64 as he then sees Net-Meister 4089 is taking a vacation to the internet. Then they explaining the history of the internet. Then they meet Dr. USB, who explains him being abused by his parents.

They then enter the internet, meeting Copy Paste Repeat and his creator Larry Tesler, who explains the origin of Copy's name. They then leave and ecounter a person named eGrope, who they kick later spreading him to the deep web in a scene with no sound. Following this they enter a house where they meet Fire Wire Yom Kippur who explains firewire and who it could've been used for the internet, but now Firewire goes kayaking and commits arson.

Then the group are seen on social media and almost die while getting shot by Lieutenant Jpeg. They then visit a library where Abraham temporarily loses internet, so Net-Meister asks Captain Dial-Up to give them internet. Dr USB then ask the group to see Bluetooth on his deathbed as Bluetooth is diagnosed with Mumps diabetes for trying to activate 7 usb devices at once, later dying. The group along with Dr. USB, Copy Paste Repeat, Larry Tesler, and Captain Dial-up then realise they have to enter the deep web (with Tor in order to keep them anonymous).

As they enter the deep web, a video plays explaining the deep web, showing images of the internet, a bear, and pornography (titled as eric) as shown on the deep web.

After arriving, USB and Net-Meister are hungry and go to an egg store named Eggs and More (which turns out to be a weapon store ran by two men named Barack and Ronaldo (who are later caught by the police as Barack accidentally says Ronaldo's name), Copy Paste Repeat visits Larry Tesler in prison as Tesler had said his name to people on the deep web, Abraham visits an underfunded school to lean about human trafficking (only to find they are teaching the history of hentai, and Captain Dial-Up is cold and suffering from heat stroke and finds a place to stay, to find a computer screen showing a man who is nicknamed Earl, who asks Dial-Up to not touch his son.

Earl then calls the police (actually the FBI) But USB and Net-Meister escape and see the man responsible for the surface web corruptions named Mr. Bandwidth. He says tht he is using eGrope as a source for his plan to overtake the surface web. His plan is to inject elements of the deep web (such as narcotics and child porn) into the surface web. Dr. USB asks to join Bandwith's sales team but Net-Meister, Abraham and Dial-Up oppose to this.

Mr Bandwith sends the group to when eGrope was kicked to the surface web and then has Grandmaster Dial-Up shot (then playing a montage set to Sarah McLachlan's Angel). Bandwith then asks Dr. USB to shoot Net-Meister and Abraham including slowing the internet down. However this doesn't go well and they re-enter the deep web.

Abraham then asks Mr Bandwith his name, then resulting in Bandwith to destroy the internet.

Production[edit]

Original version[edit]

Although unaired, an earlier version of the film was initially being developed for AP Literature.

The film was intended to be a 10 minute video which would be accompanied by a essay. However the film could not be worked on as many people intended to appear in it were leaving for College.

The film was not completed and currently the differences from the final film are only mentioned in the film's commentary

Filming[edit]

Due to the video's long length and many actors not showing up, the film's scenes were shot out of order

The first scenes shot in the film were the scenes shot in Scott's old house and Green Screen shots. The final scenes shot were of Earl's Son.[1]

The scenes of Net-Meister 4089 and Dr. USB in Eggs and More were also filmed separately from Barack and Ronaldo's scenes.[2]

Music[edit]

The original release of the film contained various pieces of easy listening music. It also contained some pieces of 1980s music. The following songs were used in the film:

VHS Release[edit]

A VHS case of the film appeared on Scott's desk in the Scott The Woz series, however it did not come with an actual video, and came with a VHS of Arthur's Double Dare.

The 2019 release is different from the original, as due to copyright, the music was remade by shamyer. Due to the fact that Scott didn't have the raw files at that point, he had to poorly extract the original audio, with some lines being redubbed due to not being of sufficient quality.

Anniversary edition[edit]

In 2021, the film was rereleased and reedited by Scott Wozniak for it's 5th anniversary. Due to Wozniak reobtaining the original files, he was able to remaster the film in higher quality.

The music was redone by Nicholas Karr, Garrett Williamson and Funk Fiction.

It was released as a collector's edition with a clamshell VHS case, signed photograph, Scratch and sniff thank you card, Keychain, set of Playing cards, Milk caps, sticker sheet as well as a book including a comic book adaptation of the film.

The film has a 9.4/10 on IMDb[3]

The film was added to Rate Your Music along with his films The Dark Age of Nintendo and Borderline Forever, and initially had a 4.30/5 from 10 ratings.
