The Library Suicides is a Welsh film adaptation of Fflur Dafydd's novel, Y Llyfrgell. The film follows twin sisters, Ana and Nan, whose famous author mother has just died under mysterious circumstances. They must investigate when strange things start to happen at the National Library that seem to be linked to their mother's death. The film is Euros Lyn's feature film debut, and the script was written by Dafydd.[1] The film premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and then was released in the UK on 5th August 2016.[2]

Plot[edit]

When famous author, Elen Wdig commits suicide, her twin daughters, Nan and Ana, are left feeling lost. Elen's final words suggest that she in fact may have been murdered by her biographer, Eben. The twins go to the National Library of Wales, where they work as archivists, to avenge their mother's death, but night porter Dan is caught in the crossfire.[3]

Production[edit]

The film was produced by Ffilm Ffolyn[4] and released by Soda Pictures. [5] Filming took place in Aberystwyth and Cardigan. [6]

Director, Euros Lyn, said of filming, "It is so important that when you locate a story somewhere that you get a feel for the place. You want to know why the place is different to anywhere else in the world, so we tried to see a side of Aberystwyth that we hadn't seen before."[7]
