LitRes is an e-book distributor and seller operating in Russia and the CIS countries.
History
The LitRes company was established in 2006 by Dmitry Gribov (FictionBook, FB2 book format), Alexey Kuzmin (Litportal) and Andrey Baranovsky (Aldebaran). Later Oleg Kolesnikov joined the team as a "minority shareholder", i.e. shareholder not entitled to manage the company. The company then acquired the Bookz.ru and Fanzin libraries. Alexander Dolgin acted as the first LitRes investor, who later sold his share to Eksmo publishing house. In 2010 Sergey Anurev headed the LitRes company.[1]
The company cooperates with such Russian publishing houses as Eksmo, AST, Ripol-classic, Azbuka-Atticus, Alfa-book, Kommersant, Mann, Ivanov and Ferber.[2]
On November 25, 2014, the LitRes electronic and audiobooks store won the Runet Prize in the «Health, Entertainment, and Recreation» category.[3]
In May 2019 the company announced its expansion into the Polish market. It launched a special website litres.pl and mobile app Czytaj! (Read!)[4] on Android and iOS[5] for Polish users.[6] The LitRes catalogue exceeds 1 million books published in more than 20 languages.[7] Also, the company plans to develop a separate application Słuchaj! (Listen!) for audiobooks until the end of 2019.[8]
