The Little Mermaid Pinball is a 2005 pinball video game based on the 1989 Disney film The Little Mermaid. It was developed for Windows by Disney Interactive and published by Disney Online through the company's Disney Game Downloads service.
The game was released on July 11, 2005 alongside two other pinball titles on the same service, Aladdin Pinball and Pirates of the Caribbean Pinball.[1] It was offered in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish, and could be played on a trial basis before being purchased as a download.[1] Disney Online later signed a distribution agreement with Macrovision to carry its downloadable games catalogue through that company's games network partners.[2]
Gameplay
The Little Mermaid Pinball is played on a single playfield divided into three connected boards, only one of which is visible at a time. Ariel appears alongside Sebastian, Flounder and Scuttle, while the sea witch Ursula and her sidekicks attempt to steal the ball from play. Points are scored by collecting musical notes and dinglehoppers and by spelling out "Ariel".[1]
Each of the three boards has its own route into the game's multi-ball feature:[1]
- Under the Sea – the middle section of the playfield. Triggering the whirlpool starts multi-ball.
- King Triton's Palace – spinning the starfish roulette or spelling out "Triton" starts multi-ball.
- Ursula's Lair – the lowest section of the playfield.
Preservation
The Disney Game Downloads service was discontinued and its catalogue removed from sale. A copy of the game's installer, distributed through the BoontyGames service, has since been uploaded to the Internet Archive.
