The Meisner Technique Studio

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Meisner Technique Studio is an acting school in San Francisco, California.[1]. The studio was founded in 1989 by Jim Jarrett, who was Sanford Meisner's last teaching protégé.[2] Since 2007, the school has been located in the Presidio of San Francisco. The Meisner Technique Studio has ties with Playhouse West in North Hollywood and The William Alderson Acting Studio in Los Angeles, California[3]

History[edit]

Jim Jarrett first met Sanford Meisner in New York City in 1987. At the time, Meisner was teaching at The Neighborhood Playhouse[4]. Jarrett spent two years studying in Meisner's professional class. Upon completing the official training, Jarrett was invited to continue studying privately with Meisner, both as an actor and as a teacher-in-training.[5] Over the course of his training, Jarrett transcribed every class Meisner taught. After graduating from his apprenticeship, Jarrett received Sanford Meisner's official blessing to continue teaching The Meisner Technique, becoming Meisner's last teaching protégé[6][7]. Jarrett later moved to The Island of Hawaii and began teaching small classes at the first generation of The Meisner Technique Studio while raising a young daughter. In 2006, Jarrett officially brought The Meisner Technique Studio to San Francisco, where he teaches to this day.

Present Day[edit]

The present day Meisner Technique Studio has educated hundreds of actors over the course of a two-year training period. All classes are presented as Sanford Meisner taught them. The faculty consists of two full-time teachers who teach every class, Jim Jarrett, and Assistant Director Melissa Thompson Esaia[8].
