The Movie Database (TMDb) is a collaborative film database. The project was founded in 2008 by Travis Bell to collect film posters. The initial database was a donation from the free project Open Media Database (omdb).[1] TMDb is a competing project to the commercial Internet Movie Database and can e.g. be used by the media center software Kodi.[2]
In 2010, TMDb was sold to the company Fan TV, although the site is still managed by its founder. As of mid-2020, there were 568,729 films and 1,752,577 people in the database.[3]
