History[edit]

The Neat Company, headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[1], offers Neat, an organizational software system aimed at facilitating increased organization for consumers and small business owners.

Founded in 2002 [2] as NeatReceipts, the company originally produced document scanners paired with their signature organizational software. Following a rebrand in 2008[3], NeatReceipts, now, The Neat Company, transitioned to solely focus on their software offering rather than the physical scanners [1]. This product adaption in turn expanded compatibility for the Neat system to be utilized with all brands of desktop scanners [2]. Additionally, in December 2017, the company officially partnered with Fujitu’s ScanSnap to provide full service bundled packages [4]

Products and Services[edit]

Neat provides software-as-a-subscription (SaaS) [5] through their InDocument Identification Technology (ID2), which extracts key information within scanned documents to make it easily searchable. The software also simultaneously integrates the information into accounting or business software such as Quickbooks[6] for automated organization and reporting. This allows for increased simplification of accounting and bookkeeping processes for small businesses as well as real-time expense tracking [1].

As a cloud-based software, Neat is also used as a method of document storage and mobile retrieval, allowing scanned documents to be accessible from any mobile device. Through Neat's mobile receipt scanning, users are also able to catalog additional documents through a mobile scanner or smartphone photo upload.

An additional integration introduced to increase mobility of use is Neat's email-in feature. This allows small business owners the option to have invoices and receipts emailed to their Neat email account which automatically stores and extracts needed information while cataloging it into their designated databases.
