"The New York School of Regional Anesthesia (NYSORA) promotes the safe practice of regional anesthesia, pain management, and perioperative medicine through free-of-charge dissemination of new information using innovative educational resources. NYSORA utilizes standardized methods, proprietary educational tools, and over two decades of experience to deliver its educational mission."[1]

Quick History[edit]

NYSORA, Inc was founded in New York in 2001 by Admir Hadzic. Historically, NYSORA’s educational mission was established by a collaboration between Drs. Admir Hadzic and Jerry Vloka in New York in 1994, under the name AnesthesiaRegional.com. Since its creation, NYSORA has been at the forefront of contributing new knowledge, research, and education to advance the science and practice of anesthesiology. Its website, NYSORA.com has been steadily growing its readership over the past two decades to the current numbers of 4 million visits annually and 35,000 readers per week.

Since its origin, the website releases valuable research and tutorial information on the practice of anesthesiology. Today, NYSORA.com continues to offer free online resources for the practice of anesthesiology with a focus on regional anesthesia, perioperative, and acute pain medicine.[2]

Research[edit]

As an international educational organization, NYSORA has teaching facilities and headquarters in New York, USA, as well as Belgium, Europe.[3] NYSORA also provides research services to the pharmacological and medical device manufacturing industries through its network of research professionals and clinical researchers throughout USA and Europe. NYSORA collaborates in coordinating and facilitating research in healthcare institutions and universities throughout Europe.[4]

Education[edit]

NYSORA has published three major medical textbooks and several new editions on ultrasound, regional anesthesia, and acute pain medicine with McGraw-Hill International, Professional Division. “Peripheral Nerve Blocks and Anatomy for Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia”, “Textbook of Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Management”, and “Textbook of Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Management: Self-Assessment and Review” have been translated into all major languages.[5] NYSORA’s textbooks have been considered standard didactic material worldwide for over two decades. These titles are used in anesthesiology training programs worldwide. They are also complete study materials for the European Diploma in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Management administered by the European Society of Anesthesiologists (ESRA).[6]

eLearning[edit]

In 2019 NYSORA released its eLearning platform dedicated to education in anesthesia. The NYSORA Learning Management System (LMS) utilizes eLearning technology for subscription-based educational content across all devices. The platform and its materials are used by universities, anesthesiology teaching programs, and individuals globally.[7][8][9]

NYSORA Mobile Applications[edit]

NYSORA also utilizes micro-learning methods to foster education in anesthesiology and related disciplines. A growing number of medical education apps under the NYSORA umbrella can be accessed both on the App Store and Google Play and are used in daily practice by thousands of subscribers. NYSORA’s Nerve Blocks app has been also translated into all major languages, such as Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch, and Chinese.[10]

NYSORA’s apps are produced in collaboration with international key opinion leaders. The scope of NYSORA’s micro-learning apps continues to expand with new releases beyond anesthesiology, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and pain management.
