The Northern Territory 'BEAT Festival' is an annual performing arts showcase hosted by the Northern Territory's Department of Education,[1], under both the BEAT Foundation and the Northern Territory Music School.[2] Since 1979, the 'BEAT Festival' has been an introduction into a performing arts setting through either the choir, instrumental ensembles, and dancers. This production involves a combination of schools from across the Northern Territory all contributing to the showcase. Being a keenly anticipated event for school students (aged 12 to 18) each year, the show involves[3]
- 300 students in the combined schools choir
- 30 piece pit orchestra
- Dance groups and other physical performers
- Rock bands and soloists
- Production setting featuring great lighting, audio, and visual content
Three shows are hosted in three different locations each year, accommodating for the wealth of talent across the Northern Territory. In June, the Katherine 'BEAT Festival', in September, the Darwin 'BEAT Festival', and in November, the Alice Springs 'BEAT Festival'.
