The OpenDAO[3] is a Decentralized Autonomous Organization that launched with an Airdrop (cryptocurrency)[4] on December 23, 2021[5]. The OpenDAO has created an online community based on the $SOS token.
History
The OpenDAO distributed $SOS tokens according to a user's trading volume on OpenSea since December 23, 2021[5]. Notably, one of the top users of OpenSea, Pranksy, claimed a total of 43.85 billion $SOS, which was equivalent to $94,000 USD at the time of claim[6]. The airdrop window has been closed and token claims are no longer possible, since the $SOS token holders voted on 4 January 2022 to close the distribution of tokens early[7].
Overview
The OpenDAO focuses on NFT creators, NFT collectors, and the OpenSea marketplace that facilitates their exchange[3]. To achieve this, the project launched a dedicated $SOS token and invited NFT collectors to claim the $SOS tokens through an Airdrop (cryptocurrency) on Christmas Eve of 2021[8].
Although The OpenDAO airdrop was distributed based on the OpenSea user base, The OpenDAO is not affiliated with OpenSea[1].
The OpenDAO is not the same as OpenDAO which is a stablecoin minting protocol[9].
$SOS token
The $SOS token is an ERC-20 token initially launched on the Ethereum network[5]. The $SOS token contract is 0x3b484b82567a09e2588a13d54d032153f0c0aee0 on the Ethereum blockchain[10].
The $SOS token is the native governance token of The OpenDAO[11]. The $SOS token is used to vote on snapshot, an onchain voting governance[12].
The $SOS token can be staked on the OpenDAO website for vote escrowed $SOS tokens, or $veSOS. The $veSOS contract address is 0xEDd27C961CE6f79afC16Fd287d934eE31a90D7D1 on the Ethereum blockchain[13].
As of March 12th, 2022, 1 $SOS token is worth $0.00000176 USD[14]

@Angyts: As I understand, you are connected to this (organisation?), so I would recommend reading Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. There are several places where the wording is what is known as Peacock wording. I would recommend familiarising yourself with the policies and guidelines before continuing to write this draft, otherwise you will have trouble getting it accepted. I am not seeing a lot of evidence that this is something which is notable outside of the Ethereum (community?). By which I mean that I am not seeing that this is meeting the notability guidelines, which is needed to qualify a topic to be included in Wikipedia. Mako001 (C) (T) 🇺🇦 05:15, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
@Mako001: I have removed the peacock wordings.
In plain english, this organisation is part of the Web3 movement. As per this source https://www.coinbureau.com/review/opendao-sos-opensea/ , was started as a way for "people" to take things into their own hands, and reject the notion that we are at the mercy of big organisations. There are a couple of more news articles written on this.
