The Paradox is a pop-punk band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2024. They quickly rose to fame on social media and opened for Green Day. They are the first all-black punk band to be number 1 on Billboard's alternative airplay chart.
History
Eric Dangerfield had wanted to start a pop-punk band for a long time before starting The Paradox in June 2024 together with Donald Bryant and Christopher Bernard. They created the social-media accounts for the band in July, announcing their lineup with Deon Lewis as their drummer, who was replaced by Percy Crews within that same month. Their social media gained 110,000 followers within three weeks[1] and over 730,000 within a month.[2] Their career started by playing songs written by Dangerfield from his apartment and posing them on their social media.
The band's sudden and rapid rise to fame has led to many people accusing them of being industry plants.[2]
Their first single "Kaitlyn", released on July 3, 2024, went viral on social media. This led to the band getting invited by Billie Joe Armstrong to open for Green Day's show in Atlanta and by Jack White's show in Nashville within a month of the band's forming.[1] The band released the singles "Imani" on August 2 and "Ms. Lauren" on October 19. One day later they would play the first set of the day as a last-minute addition to When We Were Young.
In 2025 the band continued releasing new singles. "Do Me Like That" (which was first called "Subaru" before an alleged cease and desist from the car company[1][3]) released on April 25 and "Get the Message" on June 13. Both singles getting a lot of traction on social media, gaining them thousands of listens on streaming platforms and views and new followers on their social media, a video of them performing "Get the Message" in a backyard in February, before its official release, gaining several millions views.
The band was announced to be a supporting act on the EU/UK leg of All Time Low's Everyone's Talking! The World Tour.[4] Shortly before the band announced they had to cancel partaking in this tour due to unknown circumstances.
On July 18, 2025, they shared a preview of a song featuring Travis Barker. This song, Bender, was released on the July 25th. On August 25 the band announced the release of their first EP NSFW on September 19. On August 29 they released the single "Do It Again", which would feature on NSFW alongside the previously released singles "Do Me Like That", "Get The Message" and "Bender" and new songs "Leave My Room" and "No Strings Attached".
"Get The Message" features on the soundtrack of EA Sports video game NBA 2K26.[5]
"Get The Message" reached number one on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart on January 24, 2026.[6] This marked the first time an all-black punk band ever achieved this feat.[7] This news gained them a shoutout by LeBron James on his Instagram page.[8][9]
