The Path We Chose (TPWC) is an American hip hop group formed in Connecticut circa 1990.
The group first began recording and performing around on the tail end of "the golden age" of Hip Hop. Its original style was heavily influenced by jazz music and breakbeats, and centered on MC-ing, DJ-ing, and Graffiti.
Over the next ten years the group's style evolved. The Path We Chose continued to write and record rap music, but also expanded into recording music for television and movie soundtracks. The Path We Chose's single "Justice Got a Hit Man" appeared in the 2003 feature film Fight Night,[1] the soundtrack for 2005 television pilot episode of Rip Off[2] featured several TPWC songs including the show's theme song "Funny How That Work Out", and in 2008 The Path We Chose composed the entire score for the film Between Two Evils.[3]
Currently The Path We Chose creates and performs hip hop music composed by its member Mack1er (Mack Oner). Though based in Connecticut, the group distributes its music exclusively in digital format available online worldwide. Mack1er is quoted in an article on CNBC.com entitled Connecticut Hip-Hop, Out of the Shadows as saying, "We distribute our music solely in digital format online. It's not like it used to be. Now you put your music on iTunes and it's immediately available worldwide."[4]
Also online are the group's videos[5] which are produced and directed by TPWC members, Mack1er and JakeLaRock. Their music, lyrics, and videos incorporate key areas of their lifestyle such as martial arts, philosophy, parkour, and freerunning. Mack1er states about the future of the group, "The road's been a long one, but the best is yet to come."[6]
