The People's Championship v1.0 was the championship game of the inaugural Fan Controlled Football season. The Glacier Boyz took on the Wild Aces for the title of People's Champions. The game was held on March 23, 2021. The game was played in John Pettit Memorial Field at Infinite Energy Arena in Duluth, Georgia. The broadcast was streamed on the official FCF Twitch channel, VENN TV, and NBCLX. The Wild Aces would overcome a 14-point deficit in the second half to win the game 46–40 on an Ed Crouch last-second rushing touchdown.[1]
Background[edit]
The name of the championship game was voted on by the fans, with The People's Championship getting the most votes. The season was known as Version 1.0 or v1.0 seeing as the league was like a video game.[2]
Teams[edit]
Wild Aces[edit]
The Wild Aces finished behind the Beasts in the standings for the 2021 season and were scheduled to play the Zappers in the semifinal round of the playoffs.[3] The Aces ended up routing the Zappers 32–6, the first time a team had been held to single-digit points in league history.[4] The Wild Aces had many weapons like Ladarius Galloway and Ed Crouch going into the game. Ladarius Galloway played football at two colleges during his career before going undrafted in the NFL draft. Galloway won the regular season MVP award for 2021 FCF season. Quarterback Ed Crouch was great at McPherson College. He passed 2,000 yards in 2 out of 4 of his seasons there.[5]
Glacier Boyz[edit]
The Glacier Boyz weren't the greatest team during the regular season, only going 1–3 and finishing in last place in the 2021 standings.[6] The Boyz played the Beasts in the semifinal round of the playoffs. They played a good game against them and ultimately won 38–20.[4] The Glacier Boyz had a few good weapons such as Andrew Jamiel and KaVontae Turpin. Turpin went and played in The Spring League and then signed on to the Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster for the 2022 NFL season.[7] Wide receiver Andrew Jamiel was a stud at Stonehill College. He had two 1,000-yard seasons during his time there.[8]
Entertainment[edit]
Pre-game ceremonies[edit]
Before the game started everyone took a moment of silence for the three spa shootings in the Atlanta Metro Area the Tuesday before the game. The National Anthem was sang by Jessica Rumph, the wife of Glacier Boyz nose tackle Donte Rumph, as a surprise as it wasn't announced beforehand.[1]
Halftime show[edit]
The halftime show was preformed by Yung Petro, the latest artist to sign with Quavo's Huncho Records. He preformed his latest single, Bloodline, before the start of the second half.[1]
Media coverage[edit]
The broadcast was streamed on the official FCF Twitch channel, VENN TV, and NBCLX. It was also aired on the official FCF app for the fans to view.
Game summary[edit]
Fist half[edit]
The Wild Aces won rock-paper-scissors and deferred to the second half.[1] The first half was a slugfest of points with a combined total of 52 points. Regular season MVP super back Ladarius Galloway ran for a pair of touchdowns and wide receiver Andrew Jamiel connected with Deondre Francois for 3 touchdowns through the air. At the end of the first half, tight end Jeremiah Houston caught a pass while falling on his back from quarterback Jackson Erdmann which would then go to fan review with 24 seconds left in the half. It was ruled a catch making the score 32–20 to end the half.[1]
Second half[edit]
Ladarius Galloway added his third touchdown to the game when he made the score 32–26, chipping away at the strong halftime lead of the Glacier Boyz. Former Wild Aces quarterback Deondre Francois ran the ball from 13 yards out to extend their lead 40–26.[1] Ed Crouch made a spectacular throw to tight end Elkanah Dillon from 36 yards out that Dillon caught in the back of the endzone for 6. On the Aces' next drive they drove down the field with backup super back Daryl Virgies. Virgies would put the ball in the endzone with a 13-yard run. The Aces made their biggest stop of the game when they stopped the Glacier Boyz at the 5-yard line after they used their 5th down power-up. Starting at the 5-yard line they drove down the field again and with 3 seconds left, quarterback Ed Crouch faked a handoff right to Ladarius Galloway which faked out the whole defense. Crouch ran left and his foot touched the pylon with no time remaining, making the score 46–40 and winning the game for the Aces.[1]
