The Personality cult of the N. Nazarbayev is an expression used in the political and media environment to describe the nature of the political and sociological image of Nursultan Nazarbayev by analogy with the ideas of the cult of personality of other leaders of the world. Nursultan Nazarbayev is the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. N. A. Nazarbayev was President from April 24, 1990 to March 20, 2019. After leaving the post of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, he retained the posts of head of the Security Council of Kazakhstan and Chairman of the ruling Nur Otan party, and remained a member of the Constitutional Council of Kazakhstan.

In toponymy[edit]

At least 9 streets are named after the first President of Kazakhstan. Streets in Jordan and Turkey have name by the Nursultan Nazarbayev. In the regions of Russia, streets in the Ingushetia, the Chechnya and the Tatarstan have name Nazarbayev. In the Chechnya, a Lyceum has name of the first President of the Republic of the Kazakhstan. The first syllable of his name "Nur" is added to the relocation program, the name of the mosque, the name of the village Nurkent, the name of the party Nur Otan, media holding Nur Media LLP, the Internet portal nur.kz, bank – Nurbank. The capital of the Republic of the Kazakhstan renamed in 2019 year from Astana city to the Nur-Sultn city. In addition, in honor of the Nursultan Nazarbayev, a variety of tulips named and the order awarded for special merits in state and public activities. Three parks: in Osh (Kyrgyzstan), in Aktobe (the former Abai Park), and an arboretum in Almaty (with an oak tree planted personally by Nursultan Nazarbayev) have name Nazarbayev. The airport and railway station in Nur-Sultan city have also name of the first President. In 1998, the mountain peak in the Northern slope of the Tien Shan range of the Zailiysky Alatau became the peak of Nursultan. By decree of August 28, 2004, Nazarbayev opened the Museum of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which tells about his life and role in the construction of a new independent Kazakhstan state. Cultural institutions have name in honor of Nursultan Nazarbayev: the Library of the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan; two centers "Historical and cultural center of the First President" in Temirtau and "Nazarbayev center" in Nur-Sultan city; 20 elite schools and the main University of the country "Nazarbayev University". They opened on the initiative of Nursultan Nazarbayev.

In monuments[edit]

Several monuments of the Nursultan Nazarbayev opened during his lifetime: in the Kazakhstan - the Presidential Park in Almaty city, in the Taldykorgan city; in the Ukraine - in the city of Comrat in Gagauzia; in the Kyrgyz Republic - in the city of Cholpon-Ata; in the Turkey – Ankara city. A sculpture copying the composition of the monument to the 16th USA President Abraham Lincoln in Washington opened at the National Museum in Nur-Sultan (Astana city) on 10 July, 2018 year in honor of 78th birthday of the Nazarbayev.

Holidays[edit]

December 1 is the day of the First President, which is also a public holiday and a day off. His birthday coincides with the national holiday the Day of the Capital. May 7 is the birthday of his first daughter and Defender of the Fatherland Day. Both days are holiday and off days.

Leader of nation[edit]

Deputy Amzebek Zholshibekov proposed to grant the head of the Republic Nursultan Nazarbayev the lifetime status of leader of the nation. Other deputies suggested extending guarantees of inviolability of the first President's property to members of his family who live together with him. In this regard, a group of deputies of the Mazhilis proposed to make appropriate legislative amendments. Thus, the people's deputies agreed that the head of state and members of his family are completely exempt from criminal liability. Among other things, the draft laws provide for criminal liability for defacing images of the first President of Kazakhstan, public insults and distortions of the facts of his biography. In addition, a Museum of the first President and a bust of the head of state will be create in Nursultan — in fact, another lifetime monument. • On the issue of introducing the institution of "Leader of the nation", two bills were introduced: draft constitutional law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "on amendments and additions to certain constitutional laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan on improving legislation in the field of ensuring the activities of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan-the Leader of the nation" and draft Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "on amendments to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on improving legislation in the field of ensuring the activities of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan-the Leader of the nation» Regarding power, the draft constitutional law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "on making additions and amendments to certain constitutional laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan on improving legislation in the sphere of ensuring the activities of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan- the Leader of the nation" establishes the following: “The first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan — the Leader of the Nation, by virtue of his historical mission, has the right for life: 1) apply to the people of Kazakhstan, state bodies and officials with initiatives on the most important issues of state-building, internal and foreign policy and security of the country, which are subject to mandatory consideration by the relevant state bodies and officials; 2) to address the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and its Chambers, at meetings of the Government of the Republic when discussing important issues for the country; to head the Assembly of the people of Kazakhstan; to be a member of the constitutional Council, the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan.” • On May 13, 2010, the Senate of Kazakhstan (upper house) of the Parliament approved amendments to the legislation that give President Nursultan Nazarbayev the status of "Leader of the nation". On June 3 of the same year, Nazarbayev refused to sign the draft, but did not veto it. In accordance with loopholes in the Kazakh legislation, a law that has not been signed by the President, but has not been returned to Parliament by the President , becomes effective 30 days after it is submitted to the President for signature. Thus, since June 14, 2010, Nursultan Nazarbayev is the Leader of the Nation. In the criminal code of Kazakhstan, there is an article of the death penalty for encroaching on the life of the President of the country, even if these actions do not lead to a fatal outcome

Protests of the personality cult of the N. Nazarbayev[edit]

From 2007 to 2008, there was a parody "monarchical" movement "Nur-Otar", which performed at street events, where the movement mocked the cult of the personality of Nazarbayev. The name of the movement is consonant with the Pro-government party "Nur-Otan", and translate from Kazakh as "Holy herd". On February 3, 2009, a group of young people protested against the spread of the cult of Nazarbayev in front of the office of the Nur-Otan party in Almaty city. Representatives of the Communist party of Ukraine (KPU) began collecting signatures on December 16, 2013 for dismantling the bust of President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in Dneprodzerzhinsk. They explained their initiative as a protest against the criminal prosecution of workers ' movement activists in Kazakhstan, in particular, the mass protests in Zhanaozen in 2011 year.

Mass renaming of central streets of cities and the capital[edit]

On March 20, 2019, acting President of the Republic of the Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev proposed to rename the Central streets of cities and the capital in honor of Nazarbayev. According to the expert, the total costs associated with renaming are about 125 million dollars (47,301,250,000 tenge). Rename of the streets in the cities:
