The Poor Man of Assisi

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Poor Man of Assisi (in Greek: Ο Φτωχούλης του Θεού) is a novel by the Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis. It was published in 1956 in Athens.

The book tells the fictionalised life of Saint Francis of Assisi, 'a synthesis of biography, poetry and the things Saint Francis did not say'.[1] Nikos Kazantzakis had already published the Greek translation of the biography of the same saint by the Danish writer Johannes Joergensen, whom he had met while travelling, under the title Saint Francis of Assisi (in Greek: Ο Άγιος Φραγκίσκος της Ασίζης).[2]

The novel is dedicated to Albert Schweitzer.[3]
