The Public Purpose (PPJ) is a student-run,[1] peer-reviewed journal for master's and PhD students at the American University School of Public Affairs (SPA) in Washington, D.C.[2] Founded in 2002, the PPJ publishes two editions: an annual academic journal featuring scholarly work by SPA graduate students,[3] and a weekly online edition with short-form articles on public affairs, public policy, and politics.[4] Graduate students manage, edit, and publish the journal in cooperation with the SPA Graduate Student Council.[5][6]

The Public Purpose Journal[edit]

The Public Purpose Journal is the School of Public Affairs' annual academic journal. Since 2003, this print edition has published interdisciplinary scholarly work, qualitative studies, and quantitative analyses from graduate students in American University's departments of Government; Justice, Law, and Criminology; and Public Administration and Policy. Articles are peer-reviewed by student editors and faculty reviewers.[7][8]

The Public Purpose – Online Edition[edit]

Since 2015, the PPJ has also published short-form online articles on a weekly basis throughout the year, focusing on current events and topical policy and political issues.
