The RMR Group Inc. is an American alternative asset management company headquartered in Newton, Massachusetts.[1] Founded in 1986, the firm manages commercial and residential real estate investments and provides asset management, property management, development and capital markets services across the United States.[2]

The company was founded in 1986 and is publicly traded on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the ticker symbol RMR.[3]

History

RMR was established in 1986 to manage real estate assets and public companies in the commercial property sector. The company subsequently expanded its operations to include asset management, property management, development and real estate finance.

In August 2016, RMR acquired Tremont Realty Capital, a Boston-based commercial real estate finance company. The transaction was RMR's first acquisition after becoming a public company in December 2015.[4][5]

In 2023, RMR acquired the CARROLL multifamily platform for approximately $80 million. The transaction marked the company’s entry into multifamily real estate management.[6] The acquisition was completed in December 2023 and added a multifamily investment and property management platform to the company’s operations.[7]

In August 2024, the company acquired a 240-unit residential property in Denver for $70 million. The transaction was the first multifamily acquisition completed through RMR’s residential platform.[8]

Operations

RMR provides management services to publicly traded real estate investment trusts and other public and private real estate businesses. Its activities include asset management, property management, leasing, redevelopment, construction oversight and real estate finance.[3]

The company’s operations encompass several property sectors, including office, industrial, retail, hospitality, senior living, residential, medical office and life science real estate.

The company has more recently expanded its operations through their residential platform and the ARIUM property-management brand. In 2024, its residential investment and operating platform had approximately $5.3 billion in assets under management.[8]

As of March 31, 2026, RMR reported more than $37 billion in assets under management, comprising $25.4 billion in perpetual capital and $11.7 billion in private capital.[9]
