The Royal Oak is a Pub and restaurant in High Street, Swallowcliffe 13 miles west of Salisbury. Housed in a 18th-century building that is a Grade II listed building, the pub was opened circa 1852 and closed in 2007.[1] The pub offers various cuisines and is co-owned by James May who bought half of it in September 2020.[2] The Pub has 6 Rooms to choose from. [3]
History and Closure[edit]
The building was built and opened 1705 as a tannery owned by Thomas Wright and in 1852 opened as a pub. By that time, the building itself, was still called the Tannery and later Called The Royal Oak Inn.[4] In 1966 The building became a Grade II listed building on the 6th of January, 1966.[5]
In 2007, the pub closed and layed abandoned for 7 years.[6]
Restoration and ownership[edit]
From 2014 to 2016, the abandoned pub began the restoration. [6]
In 2020, James May bought half the pub and became co-owner[7]
