The Secret Is Safe (Arabic: السر في بير, transliterated Elseer fi beer) is an Egyptian comedy film released to theatres on January 19, 1953. It is directed by Hassan Helmy, features a story by El-Mohandes Mohamed Rahmy and dialogue by Abdel Fattah el-Said, and stars Mohamed Kamal al-Masri (nicknamed “Sharafantah”), Elias Moadab, and Mahmoud Shokoko. The plot revolves around a rich man who assigns a private detective firm to find his daughter when she runs away before her marriage.

Synopsis[edit]
A rich old miser is to remarry after the death of his first wife, courtesy of the offices of a ceremony handler (Lutfi al-Hakim), this time to a young woman named Ikhlas Hanim al-Zouk (Samiha Ayoub). The consummate gold digger seeks to inherit his wealth and convinces him to marry his only daughter Nadia (Magda Amir) to her playboy brother Lotfi Bey al-Zouk (Mohamed El Deeb), who is in a counterfeit money gang. Nadia is in love with the young Fakhri (Mohamed Salah), who sings in a cabaret, and she conspires with the maid Sitham (Widad Hamdi to help her elope on the wedding day with a kidnapping alibi reinforced by a message in lipstick on the mirror: “We kidnapped Nadia and warn that any attempt to find her or tip off the police will have dire consequences, signed, the Red Jinn Gang.”
The note ends up in the hands of Fakrhi, who takes it seriously and seeks out his friend Mahzouz (Mohamed Shawky), who brings it to a private detective service with the tagline: “Huge sales and great news from the Office of Private Research to Combat Assaults, Thugs, and Trickery. Mr. Luqman al-Hassan, our motto is “The Secret Is Safe,” 707 Al-Zanfali Street, Azab al-Zanfali.” Fakhri goes to the address and meets the proprietor Luqman al-Hassan (Mohamed Kamal al-Masri) and his assistants Manshar Abu Lahaf (Mahmoud Shokoko) and Naasan al-Hanash (Elias Moadab). Fakhri pays them 60 pounds and 3 in deposit to find Nadia. The men investigate her room and interview the maid in the kitchen, who misleads them about her whereabouts
On the way out, the investigators encounter the head counterfeiter, Sharif (Mahmoud Ismail), and inadvertently misplace a bag with some forensic tools and up with Sharif’s bag of fake money. Afraid of Sharif’s wrath, the investigators hide in a car in front of their office. The car belongs to none other than Fakhri, whose cabaret is run by Sharif, and they discover Nadia alongside her now-husband Fakhri at the club which they didn’t belong to, hence their failure to recognize she was alive all along. Also in love with Fakhri, however, is the cabaret dancer Karaman (Samiha Tawfik), who sees an opportunity from being tipped off to Nadia’s scheme to defraud her father with the “Red Jinn Gang kidnapping” hoax to pry him and Nadia apart. Sharif asks on behalf of said gang for 5,000 pounds in ransom, which the investigators agree to pay from the fake money bag.
Discovering that this is his fake money, Sharif locks the trio with Nadia in the cabaret basement, but they overpower him and free Nadia, asking her to tip off the police to handle the arrests. The police arrest the gang and get the fake money from the investigation office. As it so happens, the World Bank has offered a reward of 5,000 pounds to whoever captures the counterfeiters. Hence, the investigators get their ransom money back as Manshar Abu Lahaf marries Sitham in a double wedding with Fakhri and Nadia.
