The Secret World of Jeffree Star is an American docu series created by Shane Dawson. The web series was announced on the 24th of July 2018 through Dawson's twitter[1] and immediately attracted attention of news outlets[2] and premiered on August 1, 2018 distributed on Shane's YouTube channel for free. The series stars and is produced by Shane Dawson, Jeffree Star and Jessica Buttafuoco.
The premiere debuted on number one trending on YouTube which is a rarity for both Dawson and Star - within one week the episode attracted more than 15 million views. Two weeks after the premiere the series has totalled 70 million views.[citation needed]
Premise[edit]
Internet veteran Shane Dawson explores Jeffree's secret life, he has been living online for over a decade, this includes an exclusive peek into his Calabasas home valued at $3.6M and his early roots, even exploring his original apartment, where he begun his now infamous MySpace page.
Each episode is led by an old clip from Star's now inactive MySpace page.

Jeffree Star in all his eccentricities has been taking the glam world by storm, with his music and beauty-centric videos. Donning hot-pink hair and heavily-done eye makeup, Jeffree’s electrifying persona is what’s been the talk of the town for quite some time now with a career spanning over a decade. From working as a beauty guru to now using social media as his stage to showcase everything that he is passionate about, This ex pop singer has also been in the spotlight for songs that go in the opposite direction when it comes to clichés and gender-stereotypes.
Not just that, Star’s self-titled YouTube channel has over 9 million subscribers. Currently residing in Calabasas, California. His father died when he was just six, and he was solely taken care of by his mother, who worked as a model. Jeffree grew fond of makeup and all things glam after he started experimenting with his mother’s makeup every time she left for modelling projects. Although this is all public information this series takes a deeper dive and explores his self titled "Secret World" and reveals secrets behind the multi-millionaire's life which have never been told in this all new exclusive look into his life.

In early July it was announced that Shane Dawson would collab with Jeffree star for another 5 videos on the anniversary on their first video together which later garnered over 150,000 likes on Twitter in the announcement post. The series was later delayed due to the events at Tanacon where a YouTuber held convention turned disaster was a hot topic and opted to be created and distributed over the "Star series".[citation needed]
Release[edit]
The first three parts debuted on the trending page, within a week of release the part three parts obtained more than 10 million views each. Additionally following each episode, the term "Jeffree Star" was in the top ten trending on Twitter.[citation needed]
Reception[edit]
Fans have reached out to streaming services and cable distributors such as Netflix, MTV and Hulu to sign a contract with the YouTube star branding it as "TV grade quality"[citation needed] and even labelled by comic Kathy Griffin as a "Real produced show".[citation needed] In some negative views people have fired back questioning to give such a controversial figure a platform to speak out on all the previous incidents.[citation needed]
The streaming services have not issued any statements.[citation needed]
