The Spaceport Company is a sea-based launch startup, founded in 2022, based in Woodbridge, Virginia.[1]
In May 2023, it hosted four sounding rocket launches from its floating spaceport prototype in the Gulf of Mexico - the first sucessfully test.[2][3][4][4] In June 2023, the company received $1.5 million from the National Security Innovation Capital fund.[5][6] A partnership with Vaya Space, for offshore launch operations, was announced in April 2023. [7][2]
In May 2024, the company secured a $2.5 million Pentagon (the Defense Innovation Unit) contract to advance the development of its mobile sea-based space launch complex.[8][4]
In 31 August 2024, in the Gulf of Mexico, The Spaceport Company launched a medium surface-launched interceptor - the first launch from its offshore hypersonic test range.[9] In July 2024 the company was awarded a contract by the Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX.[10][11]
An agreement with Maritime Launch Services was signed in April 2024.[1]
