The Swaddle
The Swaddle is an independent digital media company[1] based in Mumbai, India, known for offering alternative, nuanced perspectives on news, culture and current events[2] through its publication, podcasts, social-first video series, and documentary shorts. The publication has been recognised for its bold visual design,[3] winning multiple global design awards.[4] The Swaddle’s multimedia team has produced work on themes ranging from Mumbai’s last surviving courtesans[5] to the K-pop fandom in India.[6] Its original video series making South Asian academic scholarship widely accessible in video format[7] is still used as a teaching tool in universities around India.[8]
History
The Swaddle was founded by producer and media entrepreneur Karla Bookman,[9] first as a women’s health platform[10], and then reimagined in 2018 as a culture magazine and creative production studio.[11]
