The Termite Club
The Termite Club was a promoter and performance organizer for Jazz and free improvisation in Leeds.
History
The Termite Club was founded[1] in Leeds in 1983 by Alan Wilkinson, Paul Hession, Paul Buckton and John McMillan, among others, and had a major impact on the city's experimental music scene until 2010 according to The Wire[2]. The club acted as a promoter of experimental concerts; initially, the venue used was the Adelphi.
Events at the Termite Club produced concert recordings by Tony Oxley, Fred Frith, Paul Hession, Frode Gjerstad, Lol Coxhill and Simon H. Fell, among others[3]. The Termite Club ceased activity in 2010 but there have been sporadic reactivations since then with performances at various locations in Leeds.
