The Unnamed is an American comic book franchise published by Image Comics and Ghost Machine Productions, being created by Geoff Johns, Gary Frank, Bryan Hitch, Brad Anderson, Andrea Mutti and Brad Meltzer.

It is set in a fictional universe (the first of Ghost Machine's four initial franchises) where humanity barely survived a nuclear war, and centers on "a mysterious group of heroes across history",[1]

Publication history

Prior to the foundation of Ghost Machine Productions, Image Comics has been publishing the initial limited series titled Geiger, written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Gary Frank, and released on 2021.[2] According to the company's founders, they stressed that they would be creating stories set in genres outside the superhero genre in which many of them had already done work.[3]

The company's launch schedule was to commence with Geiger: Ground Zero, a two-issue series by Johns and Frank released in November 2023 that serves as a prequel to their 2021 Geiger limited series.[4]

Setting

The Unnamed is set in an alternate timeline where many weird events happened in history:[1]

  • Redcoat becomes immortal in 1776.
  • The Northerner begins his hunt in 1864.
  • The Monster is made in 1944.
  • Junkyard Joe comes online in 1972.
  • Widow X has her revenge in 1997.
  • The First Ghost is captured on film in present day.
  • The "Unknown War" erupts five years in the future, turning the world into a wasteland
  • Geiger walks across America twenty-five years in the future.
