The World is a Horrible Horrible Place

The World is a Horrible Horrible Place is a true crime podcast hosted by Freya Garcia and April Georgia. The first episode was released in November 2020 and the show can be found on almost any podcast platform such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

History

Garcia and Georgia met at college in 2020 where Garcia proposed the idea of a true crime podcast to Georgia.

In September of 2020 they recorded their first episode of The World is a Horrible Horrible Place but it wouldn't be until the November that the podcast went live. The pair discussed the cases of Elisa Lam and Joanna Yeates within the first episode as well as introducing themselves to the audience.

Format and structure

Garcia and Georgia each pick a murder to tell the other and the audience as well as discuss the story. The podcast consists of dialogue between the hosts with one tell the story and the other reacting. Past stories told have included The Moors Murders, Elizabeth Báthory, The Hello Kitty Murder, Priscilla Biggadike, Katherine Knight, Judith Barsi and The Ken and Barbie Killers, The 1991 Austin Yogurt Shop Murders and Elaine Parent.

Episodes are slated to be released weekly but often do not follow this upload schedule due to technical difficulties, COVID-19 restrictions in the United Kingdom and holidays within their college timetable. The episodes range in length from 36-74 minutes in length. There has been one "mini episode" so far with a second currently in the works. These episodes do not focus on murders and are instead focussed on getting to know Garcia and Georgia and are presented as insights into conversations with the hosts.

Garcia and Georgia have constantly used their platform to speak on their own mental health issues, sexuality, gender, political issues such as Black Lives Matter, ACAB as well as their love for things such as Criminal Minds, Marvel, Sarah Paulson, Paget Brewster, Sebastian Stan and Jeff Goldblum.
