Thibaud de Rougemont

Thibaud de Rougemont, was a prelate of the late fourteenth century and the beginning of the fifteenth century.[1][2] He was born in the county of Burgundy from an illustrious family and died in Rome in 1429.M[3]
Biography[edit]
Thibaud de Rougemont was elected bishop of Mâcon in 1389[4] and became archbishop of Vienne in 1395.[5]
He oversaw the establishment of the Dominicans and Carmelites in Vienne and the priory of Greenhouse at the Abbey of Saint-Pierre in Vienne.
In 1400, a decree of the king-dauphin restored the archbishop and his chapter to their temporal prerogatives over Vienna.
In 1402, the archbishops of Vienne became perpetual abbots of the order of Saint-Chef and lords of the town and its dependencies. These had been lost and partially restored by the king under his predecessor.
Conflict with the Torchefelon family[edit]
When the brothers Guy and Jean de Torchefelon, refused to pay homage to the archbishop The bishop attacks their castle the castle of Saint-Chef which was burned. In retaliation The Torchefelon family set fire to Saint-Chef, and ravage all the surroundings. When the governor of Dauphin intervened to stop the disorders, bishop Rougemont excommunicates the king's officers. The following year, the Torchefelons burned the Château de Mantaille. The Archbishop's troops in turn set fire to the castle of Torchefelon.
Pope Benedict XIII eagerly transferred bishop Rougemont to the city of Besançon.[6]
