The Thin Line Film Festival is an international documentary film festival held annually in Denton, Texas since 2007.[1] [2] [3] [4] Thin Line Fest is a multi-format festival focusing on three artistic areas: documentary film, multi-genre music, and category-specific photography. [5] The festival has been running for 12 years and general admission is free to the public. [6]

History[edit]

The only documentary film festival in Texas, the event is a project of the Texas Filmmakers, formed from a UNT student group in 2004. As there were no documentary festivals in the state, Texas Filmmakers decided its festival, scheduled that first year in the Campus Theatre for Labor Day weekend, 2007, would feature only documentaries and observe the “thin line” between fact and fiction.[7] [8] [9]

Thin Line started off as this idea of: what is a documentary? Is a documentary one hundred percent real—or even the documentaries that you would think would be one hundred percent real—how much bias went into the creation of that content? So that discussion of ‘is it real or not’, that kind of saying ‘there’s that thin line’—that’s where the name came from.[10]
