Thomas Riesner (* 20. September 1971 in Leipzig) is a German painter whose works are associated with Outsider Art or Art Brut. In addition to acrylic and ink paintings, drypoint etching is one of his artistic mediums.

Life

Thomas Riesner, born in Leipzig in 1971, is a self-taught artist who has been intensively engaged with painting and graphic arts since 1990. His works are categorized as Outsider Art or Art Brut. His artistic media include acrylic and ink paintings as well as drypoint etching. His motifs are often dark, dealing with themes such as torture, death, murder, or illness, yet they nevertheless radiate an atmosphere of primal and spontaneous expression.

Riesner's artistic journey began in 1990 as part of art therapy in a hospital. Since then, he has been a member of the art group Durchblick eV in Leipzig. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in various galleries and museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig, the Museum of Outsider Art in Schleswig, and the Kunsthaus Kannen in Münster . Riesner has also received awards, including the Thieme Verlag cover design competition in 2007 and 2015.
