Thomas Van Hare is an author who was born on (1961-02-03)February 3, 1961 in Michigan. He attended Michigan State University and Lund University in Sweden.[1] He holds commercial pilot certificates with multi-engine and instrument ratings from Flight Safety, which he earned in 1992.[2]

Politics & Government Work

Van Hare was a longtime supporter of the Republican Party and served as a political appointee in three separate White House Administrations, under Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush, though he was no longer active in politics in 2016. During the Ronald Reagan 1984 presidential campaign, he worked at the Republican National Committee and helped author the opposition research book, Vice President Malaise: Twenty Years of Walter Mondale.[3] In all three administrations, he served in senior roles in defense and diplomacy, including with the Department of Defense in the Office of the Undersecretary for Policy and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Secretary of Defense working directly for Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.[1] He was involved in the so-called Charlie Wilson's War and, in 1990, headed a mission that covertly built a bridge that spanned the Kunar River inside Afghanistan, right under the nose of Soviet forces.[4]

Humanitarian & Search and Rescue Operations

During his life, Van Hare headed up several charitable organizations, including Freedom Flight International, which focused on saving the lives of Cuban balseros, and TF Hawk, which saved the lives of hundreds of Afghan women's rights activists and Afghan Air Force combat helicopter pilots who were left behind after the fall of the Government of Afghanistan to the Taliban in August 2021 after the end of the 2021 Kabul Airlift. He served as a Command Pilot and Mission Director in Freedom Flight International and in Brothers to the Rescue, flying search and rescue missions that ultimately saved thousands of lives.[5][6] In 1992, he set up and ran hurricane relief operations in the wake of Hurricane Andrew, distributing 220,000 lbs per day of much needed relief cargo for a period of two months to 64 distribution sites inside the affected areas of Homestead and Florida City during the immediate aftermath of the disaster. During that period, despite the fact that he was no longer in the US Government, he was given responsibility for scheduling daily flight operations of the US Army's deployed fleet of helicopter assets and a USSOUTHCOM fixed wing aircraft in a mission that was personally praised by President George H. W. Bush.[7] In the late 1990s, he served as President & CEO of Skylink, an airline that specialized in non-traditional operations in conflict areas like Iraq.[2]

Innovations

Van Hare developed a number of technologies relating to defense and security operations. In 1985, under contract through MILCOM, he developed a breakthrough communications security methodology for the rapid replacement of all compromised US Navy's encryption devices globally in the wake of the Johnny Walker spy ring.[1] In 2005, he developed computer-rendered video and still image dynamic dimensional composition, known as C3D. He discovered the so-called Van Hare Effect and is considered the father of a number of defense-related technologies, including Hyperdimensionality, Variable Dimensionality, and Dimensional Change Detection, which relate to military applications of intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance.

Books and Publications

Since 1997, Van Hare publishes Historic Wings, an online aviation adventure website.[8] As well, he has published several books, including BETRAYAL: Cuba, Castro & The Cuban Five, which details the events of the shoot-down of two aircraft belonging to the group, Brothers to the Rescue, by the Cuban Air Force, an event that President Bill Clinton personally declared to be "cold-blooded murder.[9] He publishes a YouTube channel called Historic Wings.[10] In addition, he is lead editor and founder of the Stockholm Mornings anthology series.[11]
