Thomas Slatin, born July 20, 1979 is daughter and only child of Dr. Harvey L. Slatin and Anne Slatin. She was born and raised in New York City before her family relocated to Stamford, New York when she was eight years old. Thomas' passion for writing and photography was ignited at a young age, thanks to the influence of her father, who gifted her first camera, and her mother who often took her to stationary stores as a child. She was mentored by the renowned poet Allen Ginsberg, and directly influenced by esteemed journalist Charles Kuralt.
Career[edit]
Thomas Slatin served as a Firefighter and Paramedic for 22 years. Her commitment and skill led her to rise through the ranks, ultimately achieving the position of Lieutenant. However, she eventually decided to embark on a new journey, pursuing her passion for photography and writing on a full-time basis.
Slatin's impressive photography has been featured in various esteemed publications, including "Current Photographer" and "Photography Tricks," both of which are highly regarded industry online publications. Thomas was born intersex; at the time of her birth, doctors were unsure of her sex. Chromosomal testing later revealed that she was genetically female and her parents raised her as a girl. At the tender age of 16, Thomas made the courageous decision to publicly disclose her sexual orientation, revealing her identity as a lesbian. This significant personal milestone marked a pivotal moment in her life, as she embarked on a journey of self-discovery and authenticity.
She married Amelia Phoenix Desertsong on May 24, 2021; the couple currently lives in Middletown Springs, Vermont.
