Thoropass (formerly Laika) is an American compliance software and security audit firm that provides tools and services for information security compliance, including SOC 2, ISO/IEC 27001, HIPAA, PCI DSS and related audits and assessments.[1][2]
The company combines a compliance automation platform with a tech-enabled audit practice, positioning itself to streamline readiness, monitoring, and independent attest services.[3]
History
Thoropass was founded in 2019 in New York City as Laika.[1] In March 2023, Laika announced a rebrand to Thoropass.[4]
In November 2022, the company raised a US$50 million Series C round led by Fin Capital, with participation from Centana Growth and existing investors including J.P. Morgan Growth Equity Partners, Canapi, and ThirdPrime.[5][1]
Products and services
Thoropass offers software for compliance program management (including evidence collection, control mapping and continuous monitoring), along with services such as IT audits and assessments, penetration testing, and support for security questionnaires and trust centers.[3][2]
Auditing and independence
SOC 2® examinations are governed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and must be performed by an independent CPA firm in accordance with attestation standards.[6] In 2022, updates to the SOC 2 guide emphasized auditor independence and clarified description criteria and points of focus.[7][8] Thoropass states that its audit entity participates in the AICPA peer review program and maintains independence standards.[9]
Market and funding
As Laika, the company reported hundreds of customers and integrations with third-party systems as part of its compliance platform.[5][10] Industry media have described the product category as “compliance automation and audit management.”[1][2]
